Peer Assessment
How will you connect your work with coral reefs and creatures from your coast-line?
I first started looking at coral reefs because I felt that the tropical colours and the interesting shapes and textures that they possess would be more suited for experimentation, especially with textiles.
However I do feel that using the sea life from my coast-line such as crabs or even shells that I found on the beach, would work well for experimenting with monoprinting or working with clay.
Since I hope to combine using textiles such as felt, silk and vanishing muslin with clay in my final piece, this will connect the two aspects of my theme together.
In what direction will you take your final piece?
I plan to make my final piece mostly with textiles, although I may bring in some of the experimentation I have done with clay.
I have drawn up different design ideas so I work out what form my final piece will take. I may either do three panels, or maybe just one large panel holding up my work.
I will sew various fabrics, angelina fibres and coloured film into large pieces of felt and I will also work into it so I can create various textures and patterns, as seen on coral reefs.
I will also use dyed sheep's wool and vanishing muslin to give my final piece a more earthly, organic feel to it.
I would love to bring silk into my final piece too, by either sewing it into waden and creating different patterns onto it, or by burning it to create a bubbled texture.
I will put all these pieces of textiles together and maybe some of the work I have created with clay, onto the panels to make it look like I have created my own coral reef.
